I know you know about The Room.

My house is always clean when you come over. Rather, my living spaces are always clean when you come over, but your knock invariably finds my throwing one last armful of stuff into The Room Which Is Shut And Guests Never See, on top of The Pile Of Things I Waited To Put Away Until Ten Minutes Ago.
It’s not a secret, and I may even tell you. We’ll have a good laugh, but I still do it anyway, and you won’t see The Room.

“Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and eat with him, and he with me.” Revelation 3:20 (ESV)

This Sunday, Pastor Ken explained how Jesus is knocking on the doors of the hearts of Christians, waiting to “eat with us”, to live in us and with us. But we are often too busy, or distracted, or hurt, or afraid to open the door. Some of us may not have been taught how.

But even if we do open the door and let Jesus in, if we let him look into the corners of our hearts—which he already sees—we still often keep him out of The Room. And many of us have more than one.

If we keep him out of The Room Of Stuff We Don’t Want To Change, we trade holiness for bondage and freedom for a greater degree of separation between us and our Creator and Savior. If we keep him out of The Room Of The Most Important Stuff, we won’t see which of our priorities are actually rubbish and may entirely miss out on our purpose that can bring more fulfillment than what we decided is our destiny. If we keep him out of The Room Of The Wounds, then we prevent the Great Physician from healing our heart, soul, and mind.

Let’s be honest, I’ll always have The Room in my physical house. But will I keep Jesus out of The Rooms of my heart, or let him in? Will you?
