We often sing the popular words written by Hillsong United,
“Spirit lead me where my trust is without borders
Let me walk upon the waters
Wherever You would call me
Take me deeper than my feet could ever wander
And my faith will be made stronger
In the presence of my Savior.”
Yet, when the waves rise and the winds blow, our faith weakens, just as Peter’s did when he stepped out of the boat to be with Jesus. And later, when facing an angry mob, Peter looked around him and cried out, “I do not know the Man.” Peter’s heart was in the right place, but his faith hadn’t matured to withstand the storms life would throw at him until He came face to face with the resurrection power of Jesus.
Just like Peter, Jesus won’t allow us to wallow in our failures. He comes to us and asks, “Do you love me?” Then He invites us to serve Him with all that we have, even unto death.
Pastor Ken shared portions of Peter’s story with us these last two Sundays, reminding us that Jesus wants to take us on a journey to make us everything He designed us to be when He created us and saved us from our sin. He has a good plan for our lives, complete with new mercies every single day. He has given us His life, but the question is…are we willing to give Him ours?
As we look ahead to 2020 Jesus is calling us to go deeper and wider with Him. We need to move beyond singing pretty songs to applying them to our lives. We need to go deeper in our love for Jesus and wider in our love for others.
The 2010s were years of growth, but 2020 is the year of transformation. It’s time to release the baggage of our past, dive into the Word, and serve the people God has brought into our circles in our community and around the world through our mission partners. It’s time to go deeper and spread our reach wider this new year.
