December 10, 2024 | Advent Pt. 2 | Peace
esus was given many names in Isaiah 9:6. One of those was Prince of Peace. The Hebrew word for peace in this verse is Shalom which means wholeness and completeness - all the broken pieces put together. If you’ve accepted Jesus as your Savior you are experiencing this, but it is a lifetime process.
Jesus brings peace in these ways:
Peace with God: He was pierced for our transgressions (Is. 53.5); he suffered a painful death, was rejected by many and bore all our sins from the past, present & future (Colossians 1: 19-20, Romans 5:1)
Peace to the world: What would the world be like without Christians (over time many things were brought about through Christians such as hospitals, schools, etc). We are Christ’s ambassadors (2 Corin. 5:19-21), we should have peace leaking out of us - in our relationships and our culture.
Peace inside of us: Our culture is experiencing depressive mood disorders like never before, we’re trying to earn peace by perfecting ourselves. Even Christians believe this lie. Jesus came to expose these lies (John 10:10) and show that the enemy wants you to believe them.
Jesus is everything we need for peace. At the time of Jesus’ birth, the angels announced to the shepherds, “...Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace to men on whom his favor rests.” (Luke 2: 12-14) His favor rests on us if we have accepted him as our Savior and Lord!
