The Stubborn Oak

Feb 27, 2022    Pastor Jeff Ralph

The oak tree is often the very last of the trees to release its leaves in the fall and winter months. It stubbornly clings to the old, refusing to release what is no longer serving it and embrace new growth. In the same way, we Christians are often reluctant to let go of our sin.

We were born sinful. Our sin natures feel comfortable and familiar. The trouble is, we cannot grow in new life and purpose without getting rid of the sin that violates God’s will for our lives. Sin often feels good and even natural to us, but it always does harm and causes damage to our relationship with God. The good news is, our desires can change.
Psalm 37:4 teaches that the power of God can renew our hearts and align our desires with the heart of God and His desires for our lives. The Holy Spirit was sent to help us reject sin and embrace God’s best. By partnering with God and submitting to the power of the Holy Spirit, we can be forgiven of our sin and strengthened for the good works God has planned for us.
